Enabling Community Discipleship
The Community Platform is developed to support Community Builders in the formation of their Discipling Communities. Community Builders can setup communities based on their passion and their burden for the community that they desire to reach out to. For those who already have their communities, the platform will help to enhance community life, enrich learning and facilitate collaboration in outreach.

Based on case studies of 400 American churches, the authors of Simple Church discover Community Discipleshipthat in many churches, there is simply no clear process for an individual to grow spiritually from a new believer to a mature disciple of Christ. Their research had shown that many young people leave the church because they were never truly discipled. Even though they may have been involved in a plethora of activities, but they weren't growing spiritually to be more like Christ. Instead of a clear path of discipleship, churches are a series of seemingly unconnected programs and activities. The Community Platform is developed to help Community Builders build up the Body of Christ (Eph 4:11-12) through the simple iterative process of Community Discipleship, transforming their Small Groups into Discipling Communities as they engage in Community Learning and Outreach.

Fostering Community Life
Everyone is usually busy with multiple commitments, unforeseen circumstances and for some people, a need to travel regularly. The Community Platform provides a community learning space for each community to enable its members to continue ‘meeting’ online so that relationships can transit from ‘hi and bye’ to one where members can continue to build friendships, maintain accountability and engage in Community Learning without being restricted by time and location. This is often not physically feasible but now totally possible through the use of the technologies provided by Internet broadband and social networking tools that are currently available. With the support of the Community Platform, members can

  • experience true community life when they stay connected to one another on a daily basis like the early church without having to be physically together all the time
  • maximize their 1 to 2 hours of face to face meeting for interactions by relegating some activities online
  • conveniently access to a wide list of Curriculum packages and Outreach projects available online
  • collaborate and coordinate as a team online to prepare for Community Outreach
  • learn, grow and serve together as a Discipling Community that shares the same calling, passion or burden for outreach without the need to be geographically near each other
  • dynamically organize into smaller discipleship groups that remain connected online when the Small Group grows into a mid-sized Missional Community

Enriching Community LearningCommunity Discipleship
Community Learning is an essential aspect of Community Discipleship that provides the foundation for Community Outreach. Hence a critical function of the Community Platform is to empower Discipling Communities to engage in online learning that is learner-centered and community-oriented.

The Community Platform supports the process of peer teaching, peer mentoring and peer coaching in Community Learning by enabling learners to

  • actively discuss and interact on the curriculum using blog & conversation tools
  • share understanding and scaffold ideas by posting their comments in blogs and forums
  • codify their learning journey in writing for further reflections
  • share their life stories, struggles and their experiences on their community blogs
  • exchange insights and share their values through real-time and asynchronous communication tools
  • develop deeper relationships and support for one another with the aid of the presence indicator and the members’ profiles
  • use community alerts and email notifications as opportunities to coach one another to resolve issues and problems
  • make use of conversation and wiki tools to collaborate as a team to reach out to other communities

In terms of usage scenarios , the Community Hub can also be used to train leaders as well as their members in the Small Groups. In addition, members can also organise their own activities such as doing book studies together online to maximise their reading without having to meet face-to-face. Features such as News and Schedule allow Community Builders to update their members with the latest announcements and also allow members to indicate online whether they are able to come for the next Small Group fellowship or participate in an event.
